Some lovely feedback on my Map Reading and Navigation Course at Rivington.

Just had a lovely comment posted on Tripadvisor about my last Map Reading and Navigation course. I’m so pleased with this I thought I’d share it!

I recently attended a map reading & navigation course on a 1-2-1 basis with Tony. It was absolutely fantastic! I decided to go on the course following a walk I went on a few weeks ago with a group of colleagues where we ‘got lost’! It was a very frightening experience and thank goodness we had a phone signal to let GPS find up home! This episode made me incredibly nervous about attempting to walk again. I found Tony’s page on a google search and made contact to arrange the training. We met up at Rivington near Bolton. At the outset Tony identified what my personal objectives were and reasons for attending the course. We spent the first 45 minutes or so going through the theory over a brew in the Tea room– covering different types of maps, scale, distance etc. Then we headed off out where Tony challenged me straight away to come up with a short route using my map and compass to a specified point. The rest of the day followed much the same format with Tony cleverly embedding the theory we had learnt in the morning into the practical situations. As the day went on we developed and expanded on the basics covering other topics such Contours. In terms of did I meet my personal objective – absolutely! I have already been out on my own since the course and had the confidence to map a short trek putting my new skills to the test. I would definitely recommend the course to anyone who wants to gain confidence in map reading and navigation. The only down side to the day was I wore shorts and as it was a damp humid day I came home with over 20 gnat bites on my legs !!
