Campsite beside Ennerdale Water. Our walk of the day finally seen as the cloud lifts.
This is a route I put together for a few days backpacking in June. Our aim was to get up somewhere wild for the first night after a long drive from the south of England and camp close to a pub for our final night. We also needed somewhere safe to leave the cars for a few nights, most car parks now restrict overnight parking.
After plotting out the route, I realised it linked together the “Waters” of the Western Fells. We planned to miss out Loweswater so the theme is The Three Waters of the Western Lake District.
Heres the route, starting from Wasdale Head, first night wildcamping below Red PIke at Scoat Tarn, second night beside Ennerdale Water on the site of the Anglers Hotel, final night camping at the village campsite in Buttermere, returning over Scarth Gap and Black Sail Pass.
53 Km, 2,300m ascent.
